Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
On arrival in Arusha, you will be met by High Peaks Expeditions representative and transfer to Le Jacaranda Hotel for overnight stay on Bed and breakfast basis.
Start your safari with a drive west across the Maasai Plains from Arusha to Tarangire National Park. This park is renowned for the large herds of elephant and buffalo, resident predators, plentiful plains game and over 350 species of birds. Enjoy your first picnic lunch under the shade of a sausage tree. Set up camp and relax through the afternoon heat before taking another game drive in the early evening. Return to you camp for showers, dinner and a good nights’ sleep accompanied by the night sounds of the African bush.
Overnight Tarangire Public Campsite.
Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park
After an early breakfast take a final morning game drive in Tarangire, before driving across the plains and into the Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National Park for an afternoon game drive in this interesting area sandwiched between the Rift Valley wall and the shores of Lake Manyara.. Have a picnic lunch in the park by one of the numerous ground-water streams, then search the park for the tree climbing lions, resident groups of hippo, and many species of water bird.. Leave the park and spend the evening and night at the nearby campsite.
Lake Manyara National Park lies in the Rift Valley, the primeval gash that scars Africa from Ethiopia to Mozambique and is named after the Manyara Plant, a bush used by the Masai in the area to fence off the corrals in which they keep their cattle. The Park covers an area of 330 sq. kms. Sandwiched between the lake -shore and the sheer cliff face of the Rift Valley Escarpment.
Overnight at Twiga Camp, Mto-wa-Mbu
Day 3: Serengeti National Park
After an early breakfast break camp and drive up the rift escarpment, cross the rich agricultural farmland of Karatu before entering the Ngorongoro Conservation area. Take a short stop at Olduvai Gorge, the ‘cradle of mankind’. Continue across the plains and enjoy another picnic lunch as you take in the vastness of these grassland plains dotted with granite kopjes.
Serengeti National Park is arguably the most famous game park on Earth. A vast tract of predator-rich land the Maasai Mara in Kenya, it is here that the great spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration, up to 1.5 million strong, unfolds reaching its frenzied peak in January/February. Pitch camp and appreciate an African sunset and dinner round the camp fire. Overnight at Seronera Public Campsite.
Day 4: Serengeti National Park
Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti, sit by a waterhole to watch the hippo and crocodile, or wait patiently for the pride of lion to make a kill. Have another picnic lunch in the bush or return to camp to shelter from the heat of the midday sun. Spend the cooler late afternoon watching your favorite animals before returning to camp, dinner and overnight at Seronera Public Campsite.
Day 5: Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater
Early morning game drive or an unforgettable hot-air balloon flight over the plains followed by a champagne breakfast (optional & *pre-bookable at extra cost). Enjoy lunch in camp before the afternoon drive to Ngorongoro arriving at your camp in the early evening, overlooking this crater, The Eighth Wonder of the World. There is nowhere else on Earth that travelers can see black rhino, elephant, hippos, lions, leopard and just about every major species of African mammal in the space of a morning game-drive and feel justified in their use of the word ‘paradise’. Enjoy dinner and over night at Simba Campsite.
Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater
Enjoy an early breakfast as you watch the mists lift above the mountain tops then descend to the crater floor to spend the day amongst the herds of animals resident here.
This 100 square mile natural amphitheater is a photographers’ paradise, and is host to an astonishing array of wildlife. You may be lucky enough to see the rare black rhino, elephant and lion, leopard and hyena, as well as large herds of zebra and wildebeest, antelope, gazelle, hippo, and flocks of greater and lesser flamingo all with the natural back-drop of the crater wall. Have your picnic lunch under the shade of an acacia tree while you watch a family of hippo play. In the late afternoon climb back up the crater wall to you camp and enjoy the fading evening light as it plays across the crater floor below you. Dinner and overnight at Simba Campsite.
Day 7: Ngorongoro – Arusha
After a leisurely breakfast overlooking the Crater, drive back down the escarpment to Mto-wa-Mbu and spend some time in the local craft markets before continuing across the Great Rift Valley to Arusha arriving in time to enjoy the evening light on the snows of Kilimanjaro as the sun sets. Dinner is optional at the lodge or you can sample one of the restaurants in Arusha. Overnight at Jacaranda Hotel
There is truly no better way to experience the magic of the bush than when you are nestled right there in it! Classic camping allows you to get close to nature at your own pace in a very personal, very classic way. You will camp in wilderness campsites with shared facilities. Our tents are comfortable and clean, our guides are friendly and accommodating and our bush cooks superb! Wildlife is free to roam in and out of these camps, and often does- up close and personal! Don’t forget a flashlight!
